See Eye to Eye

Traces to the Book of Isaiah in the Bible: "Thy watchmen shall lift up the voice; with the voice together shall they sing: for they shall see eye to eye when the Lord shall bring again Zion" (Isaiah 52:8, King James Version). In its original context, the phrase describes watchmen literally seeing each other face to face once Jerusalem's exiles finally return, not agreement in the modern sense at all. Over the centuries the phrase's meaning drifted from that literal, physical image toward its now-standard sense of shared opinion or agreement.
