Reading in Dim Light Ruins Your Eyesight

"The warning that reading in poor light will permanently damage your eyes."

No study has found dim light causes lasting eye damage, confirmed repeatedly since a 2007 British Medical Journal study on the subject. What dim light does cause is real eye strain: pupils dilate and the eye's focusing muscles work harder to keep text sharp, bringing on tired eyes, headaches, and dryness from blinking less. All of it resolves once you stop and rest your eyes. The advice to use better lighting was genuinely sound for comfort, it just got mistaken for medical necessity somewhere along the way.

Myth vs. FactDim light tires your eyes out. It doesn't damage them.
